Installation	Installation was long.  You setup a couple of the basic features but most features you need for a decent performance are still left to be configured. Also, very frustratingly it isn’t compatible with complementary anti-virus software such as, Windows Firewall.  However, it does allow you to continue the installation process.  A warning just appears to say they aren’t compatible. Overall I have been very impressed with Avira’s Premium Security Suite!  It’s really given AVG Internet Security a run for its money!  As you can see, Avira’s feature’s aren’t quite as extensive as AVG’s, this is represented by the lower price.  For Avira to really compete with the likes of AVG they will need to increase its compatibility and bring in features such as Identity Protection.  Avira’s userface could also do with a ‘facelift’ to make it easier to user and generally nicer to look at.

To conclude, watch out for Avira in the next few years…it’s bound to be big!

1. Open up the AVG Interface (Start –> Programs –> AVG –> AVG User Interface)
2. Click tools and then advanced settings
   
3. Click on the (+) next to Anti-Spam and then Click Settings.  After this click in the box next to ‘add recipients of sent e-mails to whitelist’ to make sure there is a tick in it.  (Click on below image to make it bigger)
   
4. Select Apply and then click OK.

HAM

1. Firstly, select a folder with wanted emails in, such as your inbox (you could repeat this process for other folders of unwanted emails).
2. Then open up the AVG User Interface by going to ‘Start’ –> ‘Programs’ –> ‘AVG 8.0′ –> ‘AVG User Interface’.
3. In the User Interface click tools and then Advanced Settings
   
4. Click on the + next to Anti-Spam then select Settings (Click on image to make bigger).
   
5. Move the slider to nearer ‘Less Aggressive’ or Manually change the score.  Then click Apply. (See image above)
6. Select ‘Train Anti-Spam’
7. Select the email software you use, we will use Microsoft Office Outlook for this example.  Then Click Next. (Click on image to make bigger).
   
8. Now you may be asked for your profile name.  For most people there will be only one option because you will only have one profile.  But for those who have more make sure you select the right one, i.e. the one you wish to train with.  You can make your selection via the drop down list.  Then Click OK.
9. Select the Folder from the list which you chose in step 1 (Click on image to make bigger).  Click Next.
   
10. Select All Messages (No Filtering) then Next.  (Click on image to make bigger)
    
11. Click Next
12. Once the process is complete click ‘Finish’ and then ‘OK’

SPAM

1. Firstly, create a new folder in you email software.  We suggest that you don’t create the folder in your inbox so this new folder doesn’t get mixed up in your HAM training.  Then name the folder, we suggest something like ‘TRAIN_SPAM’.  Then click OK.
   
2. Drag into this folder any Spam emails which AVG has previously missed
3. Once this is done you need to open up the AVG User Interface.  To do this go to ‘Start’ –> ‘Programs’ –> ‘AVG 8.0′ –> ‘AVG User Interface’
4. In the User Interface click tools and then advanced settings
   
5. Click on the + next to Anti-Spam then select Settings (Click on image to make bigger).

7. Then select ‘Train Anti-Spam’

14. Go back into Outlook or your email program and delete anything that was in the TRAIN_SPAM folder.

From now on the files like those that were in the TRAIN_SPAM folder should be sent automatically to your junk email folder. Sometimes they need to be trained a few times as there are variants of Spam so just repeat the steps above.

Their website is very simple to use and well laid out.  They also have an option to browse by brand which could come in very helpful!

Their latests version I have to say I am very impressed with, which is why I thought it warrented a mention in today’s tip!  I haven’t played with it properly but iTunes Genius claims it can create great playlists based on the song you are listening to! So far I have been impressed but let me know what experiences you have had!

The other thing they have done is changed the way we browse our music, implementing a grid view which is far more graphical that the old big long list!

If you think you are one of those users then take a look at the IE8 Beta download, otherwise it is best to wait for it to be properly released, but if you want to read about what is different then take a look at the office IE8 site.

We have been playing with the beta and like it very much, which means a lot considering we are BIG Firefox fans! Some pages which don’t work too well in IE7 now work properly in IE8 which is brilliant! In our eyes they have fixed the CSS layout issues, we also think it is quicker than IE7 which can’t be bad, there are a number of nice new features which we could talk about but read properly about them all here, a couple that stand out to us are the InPrivate browsing and also the SmartScreen Filter.

This is just a short post highlighting this new release of Internet Explorer so we won’t be reviewing it properly until it has been released, but well worth keeping an eye on we think!
